		<description>You&#039;re absolutely right about the hand held radio.  I was told by one of my mentors to invest in one as soon as possible.  It really should be up there with headphones when it comes to importance and need.

Good point about the transponder.  If it&#039;s just the radio that went out (I&#039;ve had that happen) then make sure you&#039;re squaking 7600.  It&#039;s one more precaution you can take to ensure safety.

In this case, it&#039;s unfortunately impossible to sqwak 7600... Secondly, I want to add a personal tip: have a handheld radio at hand ! Even if you fly VFR only, it can help a lot, and make things easier... just in case. Sportys (www.sportys.com) has a good one for 229 US$. And if you decide to buy one, make sure that the batteries are operating before each flight, and also invest in an headset adapter.</description>
