This is right on.

I am a student pilot and two 'checklist failure' mistakes come to mind.

First, I recently tried to start the aircraft before I turned on the Master switch! I was following the checklist as a 'to do list' and my finger or eye missed that step.

That wasn't serious, but the second one could have been. I once took off without having set the altimeter in a location where we were under a Bravo airspace shelf, even though it was right there on my checklist. Could very easily have busted it, but fortunately the error was in the other direction (we were lower than indicated). Root cause again was losing my place in the checklist as a result of the "looking at the checklist, doing an item, looking at the checklist, doing an item" loop.

I am working hard now to develop flows and use the checklist properly.

That's a GREAT idea. As we all know, we learn the most when we not only see something but write it out ourselves. I imagine they remember a lot more of the checklist when they do that. I'd love to stay in touch. Thanks for the review.

Good Site:

I have my students make up their own for the airplane they are flying. Some Pre made Checklists are good but in general miss a few things. But I do like the way you explained it with the landings.

I have taught students for years to memorize a " Flow" Check" Then back it up with the Checklist when you have the time.

Let me know if you would like some help or would like to network
